According to the study, the risk of potency problems is 32 times higher when men are affected by migraine. This is especially true for men younger than 40. E On the one hand, there seem to be organic causes that lead to sexual dysfunction in migraine patients. However, what few people know: Medications used to treat migraines can cause erectile dysfunction as a side effect. This is usually due to beta blockers or antidepressants that are prescribed to patients to prevent their migraines. Although they are primarily intended for the treatment of heart problems and mental illnesses, they have also proven effective in migraine prophylaxis. The fact that they involve libido, orgasm and erectile dysfunction is often quietly endured. THE FUTURE OF MIGRAINE THERAPY WITHOUT DRUGS Dr. med. Torsten Schröder says: "Although there are differences between men and women, the treatment approaches for migraine are still the same. This is because men are still underrepresented in migraine research. If we can get more men into our studies, we could address malespecific problems much better. Opportunities here lie especially in researching innovative therapies that offer an alternative to migraine prophylaxis with medication." Currently, Torsten Schröder, MD, and his team at the University of Lübeck are investigating how a diet personalized on the basis of blood sugar can prevent migraine attacks. The aim of the study is to enable migraine patients to cope independently with their disease without side effects. In this way, it will also help to reduce the use of medications that have a negative impact on sexual life.
