EN HIV HIV Diagnosis Effectively Treated - Well Accompanied. Thanks to modern HIV therapies, it is now possible to live well with the virus. With consistent medication, both quality of life and life expectancy are comparable to healthy people. In hardly any other area has medical progress brought about such improvements for those affected as with HIV infections. Infected people have to take medication for life, but they have the potential to minimize the viral load in such a way that an outbreak of immune deficiency is prevented. Even more: if no virus has been detectable in the blood of a consistently treated HIV positive person for at least half a year, there are no transmissible viruses in other body fluids. They are therefore not contagious. What’s Important? Therapy is considered successful if the viral load (number of HIV copies per ml blood serum) remains below the detection limit in the long term. There are two things that matter. Some medications can affect bone density. For this reason, the vitamin D level should be checked regularly. Regular Testing It is advantageous if an infection is recognized early and treated immediately. Knowledge of this aspect can encourage people to get tested in time. But not only the first test is important. Regular checks are also essential during treatment. A blood test is required every three months. In order to verify whether the effect of the therapy is sufficient, but also to check other blood values, such as the vitamin D level. Therapy Adherence Consistent and regular intake according to the therapy specifications ensures the success of the treatment. But which intervals best suit the individual in their daily routine? Some medications must always be taken at the same time of day, some once, others twice a day. Sometimes with a meal, sometimes on an empty stomach.
